Honoured: What it Means to be Coptic

I am proud to be part of an amazing history;

A God and a church that love me

A solid faith that’s clung onto so much

An Apostolic church built on what Jesus taught

A phenomenal history of martyrs

One we owe to their precious blood

A building full of treasure

A nave, and a glorious wall of icons

The smell of incense fills my beautiful church

Candles lit for every prayer request in front of pictures of the saints

A place of solitude when I want to leave the world Liturgies that touch your heart and allow you to connect with God A haven and a shield One where I’ve gone to Sunday School And undeservingly taught many young people A place I’ve learnt an incredible amount About Christ, love and life Baptisms, weddings & funerals connect our community Our people always stand in solidarity Wonderful priests that care they text or call And work tirelessly for our rest, often unthanked Servants who do so much from cooking and cleaning to baking and making I love my Coptic church so much Founded by St Mark it’s not changed throughout the years It’s still a majestic place with ample strong defenders of the faith And endless miracles that have taken place Every attack it endured was intended to shake it but only made it stronger I am extremely proud to be Coptic Orthodox Till my last breath I’ll proclaim my love To the place and Lord that have shaped me I am honoured to have wonderful parents and a beautiful family
